在《伴隨著光與顯微的世界—Nikon75年史》之中記載了這樣一個故事。Nikon公司史中說：武藏號在1944年10月的菲律賓海戰中遠隔33公里首發命中，兩發齊射將美國航空母艦岡比亞貝號擊沉。當年，作為日本海軍大炮巨艦主義的代表誕生了大和號和武藏號兩艘巨艦。這兩艘巨艦的完成時間是1942年左右，儘管這時已經進入航空和雷達的時代，但是由於日本的雷達剛剛開始研製，制空權又完全被美國所掌握。不得已以厚裝甲的巨艦配以遠程巨炮權且充數，而巨炮的射擊瞄準系統採用了基線長15.5米的巨大光學測距儀，重達3.6噸。如此巨大的測距儀使用玻璃製造，要保證精度實在不是件容易的事。所以那巨大的測距儀鏡片的加工本身就代表著當時光學加工技術的奇跡，也代表了Nikon的實力。

Nikon望遠鏡歷史簡介：

第二次世界大戰於1945年結束後，Nikon生產的主要產品由高性能的軍用光學儀器又轉為民用產品。

1948年 Mikron望遠鏡問世(包括6x15規格中調型在內的新系列在內)。

1964年 Nikon公司推出了其首款時尚型望遠鏡「Look」，它的主要特色是：易於持握，操作舒適、光學性能優良。「Look」亦是尼康首款榮獲日本工業設計促進組織「優秀設計」獎的望遠鏡產品。

1978年是一個講究獨特風格的一年，就在這一年，尼康極具未來派色彩的袖珍「 Dach」 6x, 7x, 8x 20DCF系列望遠鏡面世，這架成像銳利，結構緊湊，重量較輕的袖珍屋脊稜鏡望遠鏡至今仍廣受歡迎。它還在1980年被紐約現代藝術博物館列為「永久藏品」，此舉為它贏得了不朽的經典地位。

1982年，Nikon開發了8x23CF和10x25CF兩款望遠鏡，它們的創意來自於著名的意大利工業設計家Giorgetto GIUGIARO（註：他亦是Nikon F3、F4這兩款經典相機的外觀設計者）。

In 1992, Nikon Fieldscope II was judged a "Best buy" in the telescopes category. ( "Bird Watching", February 1992).

In 1998, Nikon Mikron 6x15MCF binoculars received the First Prize “Silmo d’Or” in the Instrument-Accessories category at the International Optics & Eyewear Exhibition.

In1999, Nikon 8x42HG DCF/10x42HG DCF binoculars were praised as “unprecedented models in terms of brightness and resolution” and award a “Best of the Best” as hunting and fishing tools of FIELD & STREAMS magazine, a major US publisher for outdoor enthusiast.
